Lin Thorp
The Labor Member for Rumney, Lin Thorp is delighted to be responsible for the key area of Human Services.

Lin has always been interested in social justice and equity issues, both as a support teacher to students at risk and as a Member of Parliament.

“Reform of the disability sector, child protection, family support and public housing are all areas which I have a very keen interest in”.

Appointed Minister for Human Services on 17 September 2008, Lin is one of three Ministers from the Legislative Council.

Ms Thorp was first elected to the Legislative Council in the seat of Rumney in September 1999.

Prior to this Ms Thorp, who has graduate and post-graduate qualifications in special education, worked as a member of the Derwent Support Service, specifically with students at risk and with students with additional needs.

She also was the curriculum review officer for the University of Tasmania’s School of Medicine and worked in the Menzies Centre for Population Health Research in the Injury Prevention Unit.

“I am an experienced Parliamentarian and have served on a number of committees and taken legislation through the Upper House for the Government,” she said.

“My other areas of interest have included custodial grandparents, surrogacy, sex industry reform, post school options, and I will pursue other progressive reforms.

“I remain strongly committed to the wonderful people of Rumney, and I will always support their interests.”
