Major and minor excursions

Teachers planning minor excursions such as to:

  • parks
  • museums
  • environment centres
  • or other places of educational value within the local community

should refer to Minor excursions.

Teachers planning overnight and residential excursions and adventure activities that have an inherent risk factor should refer to Major excursions and/or Specific Activity guidelines

All principals and teachers should, however, view the Risk management and Essential information links, before proceeding to individual program planning.

Major excursions are defined as overnight and residential excursions and adventure activities that have an inherent risk factor.

When planning an outdoor program or excursion, teachers must have the principal's approval and parental approval.

Departmental approval is required for interstate and international excursions.
