Tasmanian Drug Strategy

Welcome to the Tasmanian Drug Strategy Website. This website provides information on alcohol and other drug issues, and the strategic approaches developed to deal with these issues in Tasmania.

  • The Tasmanian Drug Strategy 2005-09 forms part of the Tasmanian Government’s strategic policy agenda to improve the safety, health and well-being of all Tasmanians. The Strategy aligns with and complements Tasmania Together.
  • The Strategy was developed by the Inter Agency Working Group on Drugs (IAWGD).
  • The Strategy provides a broad framework for integrated and coordinated responses across government and the community, to address the complex problems associated with the misuse of alcohol and other drugs. It comprises three strategic initiatives based on local needs for immediate action; namely the development and implementation of an Alcohol Action Plan; a Tasmanian Tobacco Action Plan; and a Psychostimulants Action Plan.
  • The approach outlined in the Tasmanian Drug Strategy 2005-09 is consistent with the directions of the National Drug Strategy 2004-2009.
  • A review of the Tasmanian Drug Strategy 2005-09 will commence on completion of the next phase the National Drug Strategy. It is envisaged that the new National Drug Strategy will be released in mid 2010.
