Melbourne Timber and Working with Wood Show, Melbourne Showgrounds, October 21, 22 & 23.   Site 44 : IST Geeveston will exhibit and sell seasoned Tasmanian specialty timbers as boards, squares, turning blanks, musical instrument and box-making timber - blackwood, black-heart sassafras, Huon pine, King Billy pine and myrtle.   If you place an order before Monday 3 October your timber can be transported to the Melbourne Timber and Working with Wood show, free of charge.   Information about Tasmanian timbers, their availability and management will also be available from site 44 at the wood show .

Next Tender at IST Geeveston from Monday 26 September 2011 - a small quantity of blackwood, black-heart sassafras, myrtle and celery-top pine logs will be offered by tender.   Images and descriptions will be provided on this website and the material can be inspected at Geeveston on weekdays from Monday 26 September until 4.30 pm on Monday 10 October.  

New display at Building Solutions Centre, Hobart - are you planning to build, extend or renovate and need to see examples of Tasmania's specialty timbers?  Visit our display at BSC (formerly called the Home Ideas Centre) 309 Liverpool St, Hobart to see the beauty of these timbers and examples of celery-top pine, blackwood, myrtle, black-heart sassafras and Huon pine used for verandahs, decks, benches, shelves, flooring and panelling.   The BSC  is open each day from 9.00 am - 5.00 pm and has off-street parking.

Tenders for IST Geeveston during 2011 -two more tenders of specialty timber material will be offered for sale : 1.  September 26  - October 10,    2.  November 8 - 22.   The quantity and quality of specialty timbers material in each tender will depend on availability. 

IST Geeveston can mill any of the material in these tenders, (estimates of milling cost will be provided for each piece), and pack all timber and mill waste for collection or dispatch to your address within Australia.  See 'Tender Sale Prices' and 'Delivery Options' on this website for a guide to past prices and likely delivery costs.

Tenders for IST Smithton during 2011 - tenders of specialty timber material may be offered for sale in :   October, Friday 13 - 4.30 pm Friday 21; November,  Friday 23 - 4.30 pm Fri. 2 December.   The quantity and quality of specialty timbers material in each tender will depend on availability.

Island Specialty Timbers is an enterprise of Forestry Tasmania and was established at Geeveston in 1992 to increase the recovery, availability and value of specialty timbers from harvesting activities in State forests.   The three operation centres for Island Specialty Timbers - Geeveston, Strahan and Smithton, receive or select logs, burls and stumps to sell or process (only at Geeveston) into slabs or timber for furniture or craft designer / makers, builders, woodturners, boat builders / fitout and  luthiers

IST Geeveston sell kiln-seasoned timber and mill green timber to order from the following special timbers logs: Blackwood, Myrtle, Black-heart Sassafras, Celery-top, Huon and King Billy Pine, figured Eucalypts, Musk and Leatherwood.   Contact them for seasoned boards, slabs for table tops or shelves, stair treads, turning blanks, beams or posts, floor boards, panelling and joinery timbers.

IST Geeveston also sell a range of raw material: sawlogs, utility logs, burls, stumps, building poles and posts and stock Huon pine craft logs, craft pieces and limb wood for sale.  They can also cut-to-order your beams, posts, cladding and timber for decks, ramps and verandahs.  Special orders for craft, furniture or building projects are welcome, eg slabs to 900 mm wide, beams, squares or posts to 6 metres long, boards and thin timber to 5 mm and slabs or beams to 500 mm thick. 

IST Strahan salvage and sell Huon pine craft logs, craftwood, limbwood and stumps to any buyer for further processing or crafting in a range of products.  No sawn timber is sold from IST Strahan, contact sawmills at Strahan, South Queenstown or Camdale.

IST Smithton sell a range of raw material: logs, burls, stumps and stock Huon pine craft logs, craft pieces and limb wood for sale. No sawn timber is sold from IST Smithton, contact sawmills at Smithton or Camdale.

The special timbers processed by Island Special Timbers Tasmania are harvested from forests whose managment by Forestry Tasmania has been certified under national and international standards, such as the Australian Forestry Standard and the International Standards for Environmental Management Systems (ISO 14001).

Island Specialty Timbers at Geeveston is a licensed Chain of Custody member, FTT 08005, to guarantee customers that all its raw material and products are Tasmanian fine timbers sourced from forests whose management is certified to the Australian Forestry Standard. The Chain of Custody system is managed by Fine Timber Tasmania Inc., maintained by a coordinator and is annually assessed by independent auditors.

Huon Pine material is sourced from sites previously harvested for sawlogs, from stockpiles salvaged many years ago, prior to dam construction and from logs recovered after river floods. 

Eighty five (85) per cent of all Huon Pine forests are permanently reserved within National Parks & Reserves.
