Two Legislative Council committee inquiries - one into Forestry Tasmania's ground breaking initiative to release half yearly results and the second into the potential impacts of the Statement of Principles Agreement- today was a good opportunity to put our position on the public record.

In February, Forestry Tasmania became the first Tasmanian state owned business ever to provide half yearly results. We did so, because it seemed the right thing to do, given the difficult conditions the forest industry is enduring and a belief by the Tasmanian Government that state owned companies should behave as much as possible like a listed company <read more>

Forestry Tasmania is continually working to refine its operations to minimise smoke in populated areas, and so far this year there has been only one smoke event to which regeneration burns have contributed.

As FT continues to look towards improving its forest management, the biomass option is being investigated as a potential opportunity to reduce smoke from regeneration burns.<read more>.
