Join FT in celebrating the International Year of Forests

LOOKING for a way to keep the kids entertained this school holidays?

Why not come along to a fantastic fun filled afternoon of hands-on activities, demonstrations, giveaways and guest celebrities to launch the International Year of Forests 2011 this Tuesday. (January 25)

At Forestry Tasmania's 'forest in the city' in Hobart's CBD you can check out a Targa 2011 classic car, talk to Targa navigator Barry Oliver, climb inside Marty's fire truck and test out our fire fighting equipment.

There'll be a chance chat to Nick and Andrew from the popular TV series Going Bush, and if you have a head for heights you can abseil off our walkway.

Kids can have their faces painted, join in with music and movement from Tassie kids singer, songwriter and author Jennifer Hopson and have their photo taken with our GIANT burrowing crayfish.

Delicious damper will be cooked throughout the afternoon by the Cygnet Scout Group and if you're still feeling peckish Ralph will be running a barbecue in our courtyard with free snags and free Adventure Forests bottles which the kids can fill from our drink wells.

Our experts will be on hand to explain about the insects of the forest, carbon footprints, finding giants in the forest, protecting our forests from wild fires and more.

So come and celebrate forests for people with us as we showcase some of the great activities and the mysteries of our forests. The party starts at 1pm at 79 Melville St. Please feel free to invite your friends and help us make this a memorable celebration.
