School holiday fun in the forest in the city

DATE 13/09/2011

Forestry Tasmania's forest fun day was a day of action packed activities as part of FT's ongoing celebrations for the  International Year of Forests.

Over 580 people crowded into the forest in the city with the queues for face painting, badge making seemingly never ending! The sound of fun filled the forest education centre as Jennifer Hopson engaged children with her bush songs while outside John was kept busy on the popular hot dog stand with Mums 'n' Dads keen to try the billy tea being brewed.

With fire fighting activites, info on Wedge-tailed eagles, and the forest insects discovery and display sections everyone was able to learn something about how our forests are managed. Our new showroom of timber products was a popular destination offering a sneak preview of the innovative manufacturing that we plan to bring to Tasmania.

And of course who could resist a photo with the ever popular Krusty the GIANT burrowing crayfish.

Please enjoy our slide show of the day.
