DATE 31/08/2011

The Forestry Tasmania and Southern Cross Media Community Assist Program for 2011/12 is now open. The program will allocate funding through one round only, accepting applications during the month of August.

Community Assist is a joint program between Forestry Tasmania and Southern Cross Media to assist individuals and organisations who endeavour to make their communities better places to live. Community Assist seeks to provide funding for organisations and individuals that share Forestry Tasmania’s core values of caring for people and their environment, thinking before we act, doing what we say we will do, getting things done and being proud of who we are and what we do.

Over the past several years, the Community Assist Program has allocated funding to locally based initiatives, events and individuals. The 2010/11 program saw many inspirational Tasmanian organisations and individuals go on to achieve great things through their sponsorships, including:

Schools Triathlon Challenge with 2575 students from 85 schools participating in a two day event that has the potential to significantly impact on student’s physical activity levels and help build positive healthy habits early in life;

The Launceston Mountain Bike Club State Cross Country Championships and Downhill Championships gave 115 riders from across the state access to State forest tracks and provided onsite first aid, transport and medals for both events.

The Rotary Club of Hobart, which received the second year of its triennial sponsorship for its annual Charity Art Show, featuring over 300 art works from 120 local artists and helping it to raise over $20,000 for those in need.

Applications for the Community Assist Program 2011/12 may be submitted under the following two sponsorship categories:

Category One: Care for People (Maximum $5,000)

A series of small grants up to $5,000 to be offered to individuals or organisations undertaking projects with a strong humanitarian focus that benefit their local communities and which are in keeping with Forestry Tasmania’s core values.

Category Two: Pride of Tasmania (Maximum $40,000)

Category Two sponsorships are designed to build relationships with key Tasmanian organisations through the development of strategic ongoing partnerships. Successful applicants will offer large-scale community benefit through contribution to sport, health and wellbeing, science, arts, environment or business.
