Career Pathways

The forest industry is one of Tasmania's largest employers with more than 10,000 people employed in a wide diversity of occupations.

Careers are available across the spectrum, from excavator drivers through to tree planters, harvesting contractors, sawmillers and forest scientists.

Of course there are many related jobs such as accountants, administrators, marketers and managers - the industry is complex and offers something for everyone.

If you are interested in a career as a forest scientist or forester, degrees courses are offered at the following Universities

University of Tasmania - Bachelor of Forest Science

University of Melbourne - Undergraduate, Graduate & Research

Australian National University - Bachelor of Science (Forestry)

Southern Cross University - Bachelor of Applied Science (Forestry)

University of Queensland - Diploma of Applied Science (Forestry)

National Forestry Masters Program

If you are interested in a career in forest growing, harvesting and haulage, sawmilling and processing, timber manufacturing, wood panel/board products, pulp and paper products or timber merchandising, courses are offered at Tafe Tasmania in Hobart, Launceston and Burnie.
