Public Seminar - Tasmania's Forest Industry 2010
Tuesday, November 09, 2010:The CRC for Forestry will be hosting public seminars focussing on 'Trends in forest industry employment and turnover 2006 to 2010'
These seminars will present results of new research on the extent and impact of the recent downturn in the forest industry in Tasmania. The research was carried out by the Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) for Forestry.
The topics discussed will include:
- How did forest industry employment and turnover change between 2006 and 2010?
- Which forest industry businesses are experiencing the greatest change?
- What are the trends in the native forest and plantation sectors?
- How is the downturn affecting forest industry business?
- How is change in the forest industry affecting workers?
- Which communities are most affected by the downturn in the forest industry?
- What is needed to help forest industry workers, their families and Tasmanian communities cope with the impacts of change to the industry - both now and in the future?
Presenter: Dr Jacki Schirmer leads the “Communities” research project at the CRC for Forestry, and is a Research Fellow at the Australian National University. Her research examines the socioeconomic impacts of plantation forestry and other types of land use change.
