Mt Victoria Forest Reserve - Shannon's Blog

Mt Victoria Forest Reserve can be located by heading out through Ledgerwood and Ringarooma and then following the signs that say Ralphs Falls/Mt Victoria Forest Reserve. If you keep your eye out on the drive up, you will see a dry stone wall which was hand built during the 1920s and is quite a feat!

Fire fighting training commences

Heading east through Branxholm, there is a turnoff to Mt Paris Road. About 13 km along this road is the Mt Paris Dam which is fascinating and rich in history from back in the early days of mining in the area.

Care for people awards

Forestry Tasmania is again offering all schools around the State the opportunity to participate in the Forestry Tasmania Care for People award.

The Care for People award is now in its fifth year, in 2010 we had 119 schools participate across the State.

Lake Echo - Shannon's Blog

Lake Echo is located in central Tasmania, and I found that it can be accessed in three ways from the Lyell Highway. If you are coming from Hobart, the first entrance is from a turnoff onto Victoria Valley Road in Ouse. This road is sealed for a short distance before becoming gravel. It takes you through the small town of Osterley (which is more like a couple of houses in the middle of nowhere).

Tarkine Forest Adventures - Shannon's Blog

Located just 46km south west from Stanley, is Tarkine Forest Adventures (previously referred to as Dismal Swamp). In the worlds only known Blackwood sinkhole, it really is something special. To get there you simply drive toward Smithton, and follow the signs along the Bass Highway; from Stanley it is only just over a half hours drive.

It’s an early start at 8:00am but I’m sure it will be worth it. Today I will be heading south, down over Vince's Saddle and through some picturesque country towns like Franklin and Huonville which are dotted along the Huon River. It’s only a 60 minute drive to Geeveston, and then another 20 minutes down the Arve Road to Tahune.
