Transition Support for Workers

ForestWorks is a national organisation that facilitates learning and skill development in the forest, wood, paper and timber industries

Under the Tasmanian Forest Agreement (TFA) the State Government provided $15 million of transition support funds to ForestWorks to distribute to forest workers whose employment has been made redundant as a result of industry restructuring, following Gunns Limited’s exit from native forest operations.

The Transition Support Fund has been largely expended and with the anticipated eligibility rate of current applications in the system, including Gunns Limited’s Lindsay St sawmill, this fund is now fully allocated.

The Transition Support Fund being administered by ForestWorks has therefore closed and no further applications are being accepted.

More than 300 Tasmanian former forest workers have received assistance under this innovative support fund which supports the transition of the Tasmanian forest industry and has provided a financial stimulus in regional areas.

For those who have an application for payment already in the system prior to the closure these are being evaluated and applicants will be notified as soon as possible regarding eligibility. The closure of the fund will not affect the way these applications are dealt with.
