Tasmanian Evidence of Identity

EVIDENCE OF IDENTITY
FOR DRIVER LICENSING and VEHICLE REGISTRATIONS

To confirm Evidence of Identity for a person

a minimum of three original and current documents (no photocopies or certified copies) must be provided.

EITHER
one document from Category A plus two documents from Category B

OR

two documents from Category A plus one document from Category B

(at least one document must show the persons Date of Birth). If one of the provided documents does not show the current Tasmanian residential address, a fourth document from the Evidence of Residential and Garage Address category is also required.

Category A

Evidence of Existence (Linkage between Identity and Person)
  • Australian Birth Certificate (not an extract or commemorative certificate) issued by Births, Deaths and Marriages
  • Australian Citizenship Papers
  • Australian Passport (expired up to 2 years)
  • Department of Immigration & Citizenship - travel documents, including a visa
  • Department of Immigration & Citizenship - Certificate of Residence status
  • Australian Firearm Licence
  • Overseas Passport (expired up to 2 years if accompanied by a current Australian Visa)
  • Australian Photo Driver Licence (can be expired up to 2 years)
  • Tasmanian Government Personal Information Card (displaying full name)

Category B



Evidence of Use of Identity(Evidence of Existence in the Community)
  • Medicare Card
  • Plastic Bank or Credit Card, with signature
  • Student Identity Card with photo issued by an Australian educational institution
  • Department of Veterans' Affairs / Centrelink Pensioner Concession card
  • Births, Deaths & Marriages Change of Name Registration / Marriage Certificate (not a church or celebrant document) or Deed Poll.

Evidence of Change of Name

  • Adoption Paper issued by Court
  • Divorce Paper issued by the Court, indicating the name being reverted to
  • Change of Name Registration issued by Births, Deaths & Marriages or Deed Poll
  • Guardianship Order
  • Marriage Certificate issued by Births, Deaths and Marriages (not a Church or Celebrant document)

Evidence of Residential Garage Address

(All documents must be less than 6 months old unless otherwise stated)
  • Certificate of Title
  • Lease or Rental Agreement
  • Australian Taxation Office Assessment Notice in relation to the premises (last or current financial year)
  • Council Rate Notice
  • Utility Accounts (power, water, sewerage, telephone, gas) relating to the street address
  • Financial Institution Statement
  • Land Tax Valuation Notice

Evidence of Garage Address

  • Evidence of garage address is not required if identical to the residential address.  If the garage address is different to the residential address, a further document showing the relevant garage address must also be provided.
 

Non-Standard

If an applicant has a genuine inability to provide the required identity documentation, please contact the Transport Enquiry Service on 1300 851 225 for further information (at least 1 Category A document must be provided).

Evidence of Identity for Body Corporate

(Company or Incorporated Association)


To Confirm Evidence of Identity for a body corporate (a company or an incorporated association) at least one document must be provided from the Incorporation Registration Documents category below. Additional documents may also be required to demonstrate the current Premises Address, Garage Address or a Change of Name of the body corporate.

Incorporation Registration Documents

(Must be current photocopies are acceptable)
  • Certificate of Registration (with Australian Company Number - ACN)
  • Certificate of Registration of Change of Name (with ACN)
  • Extract of the Company (with ACN)
  • Certificate of Registration of Foreign Company stating Australian Registered Business Number (ARBN)
  • Certificate of Incorporation
  • Written Authorisation on letterhead to register the vehicle (from issuing Authority and citing the Act under which established)

Evidence of Premises and Garage Address

(All documents must be less than 6 months old unless otherwise stated)


  • Contract of Title
  • Lease or Rental Agreement
  • Australian Taxation Office Assessment Notice in relation to the premises (last or current financial year)
  • Council Rate Notice
  • Utility Accounts (power, water, sewerage, telephone, gas) relating to the street address
  • Financial Institution Statement
  • Land Tax Valuation Notice

Evidence of Change of Name

  • Certificate of Registration of Change of Name (with ACN)
  • Written Confirmation on letterhead of name change (from Issuing Authority and citing the Act under which established)

Evidence of Garage Address
