Prossers Road Junction Upgrades

Background

The Department of Infrastructure Energy and Resources (DIER) has programmed several junction upgrades along Prossers Road.  This $2.8M project is part of the North East Freight Roads (NEFR) program and includes upgrading three intersections located in the Launceston Council:

  • Lilydale Road junction with Prossers Road
  • Prossers Road junction with Patersonia Road
  • Patersonia Road junction with the Tasman Highway (at Nunamara)

The three junctions listed above, lie along the Prossers Road forest freight route linking Camden Hills Road and the Tasman Highway with Lilydale Main Road.  The upgrade will increase safety for all road users, promoting better interactions between passenger and freight vehicles.  The upgrades to the intersections on the Prossers Road forest freight route, as well as the drainage improvements, address safety concerns raised by both the residents and industry alike.

The project will specifically improve sight distance, widen road junctions, provide new bus bays, improve drainage and provide an overall safer road environment.

Location of Works

The three sites are located in the North East of Tasmania in the Launceston Council.  A map of the location and proposed site works is provided below:

Impact of works

Works will be completed in accordance with an approved traffic management plan with traffic delays kept to a minimum.  Heritage and environmental values have been carefully considered before works commence.  Access to a significant number of properties will be made safer.  The project will also improve safety for school bus users.

Current status

  • The project is currently in the planning phase.
  • Construction works are programmed to commence in January 2013.
